President and Executive Director
Cecil Byrd has been working with veterans since his discharge from the Army in 1972. Came to DC in 1978 and has been working with veterans in the District of Columbia as an advocate, educator, trainer, therapist, employer and friend. He became the Executive Director of National Association of Concerned Veterans in 1984 and accepted the position of Director of Veterans Affairs for the University of the District of Columbia in Oct 2013.
NACV is a 501 c 19 dedicated to advocating and serving the neediest of veterans. Over the years NACV has trained, housed and employed literally thousands of DC area vets. Its major efforts today are its comprehensive re entry program GREAT EXPECTATIONS. At its peak NACV had over 3300 chapters in over 35 states around the country.
Byrd is a trained clinical psychologist with over 40 yrs of clinical experience working with veterans and their families. In addition, Byrd is a Disaster Relief Reserve Administrator with the American Red Cross and just returned from approximately 2 months deployment in NY working with Hurricane Sandy disaster victims.
Byrd brings this skills and expertise to UDC with goal being to make it the best education and training University in the District. Welcome military and veterans. Let us help you achieve your goals and dreams as you reenter civilian life here in the District.
